Rose's Internship with Ecologic:
Investing in the next-generation of environmental professionals.
At Ecologic NRM, we use our profit-for-purpose funds to support emerging environmental professionals through meaningful, hands-on internship programs.
Rose Rusanoff recently completed a 12-week paid internship with Ecologic NRM as part of the Australian Land Conservation Alliance (ALCA) pilot internship program. The placement gave Rose hands-on experience across a range of projects in East Gippsland.
We are inspired by the next generation of environment champions and appreciative of the skills and experience Rose has contributed to our work! She saw some of East Gippsland's threatened species too - including the Bonnet Orchid Cryptostylis erecta and Swamp Everlasting Xerochrysum palustre.
What the internship covered
Native Vegetation Assessments
ArcGIS & Spatial Mapping
Offset Site Management
Alpine National Park Field Work

Rose's Reflections
My three-month internship at Ecologic NRM has been rewarding, educational and above all incredibly enjoyable!
I have had the opportunity to be involved in a range of projects including native vegetation removal assessments, strategic management planning and ongoing offset site management. A heavy focus on working with ArcGIS software within the internship has been particularly beneficial, and having the opportunity to develop my mapping skills has been especially worthwhile.
The Ecologic NRM team were welcoming and I settled into East
Gippsland well thanks to everyone's kindness and warmth. Working within a small team made training, guidance and collaboration easy, and enabled me to build lasting personal and professional relationships.
"One highlight was a week of camping and peatland ecosystem weed mapping in Alpine National Park — spending a week working in the Victorian Alps surveying peatlands and removing highly invasive weeds was a memorable and valuable experience".
It is fulfilling to know that the work I have contributed to has built and developed my expertise, and is also of direct benefit to the environment.
This internship has provided me with a comprehensive introduction into environmental consultancy, and I feel I am now better prepared for the expectations of work within this industry.
Many thanks to Trish and the Ecologic NRM team!
